Born in Quito, raised outside Boston, and now based in Brooklyn, Rafael is a photographer, recording artist, and writer with an enduring curiosity about the world and the people in it. Curious by nature and ambitious in practice, he has long found inspiration in the people, places, and experiences that shape his understanding of the world. Whether meeting someone new, exploring an unfamiliar city, or finding a different perspective on something familiar, there's usually something worth discovering.

In 2026, Rafael was welcomed into the Copley Society of Art, marking an exciting chapter in his photographic career. Beyond the lens, he creates music under the name PROFET, with a growing catalog of hip hop and alternative R&B reaching listeners in over 100 countries. His interests also extend to writing, where he explores ideas and experiences that don't always find their way into photographs or songs. Evidently, one creative outlet was never going to be quite enough.

At its heart, PhotogRafael remains a place for photography, collaboration, and the stories that emerge along the way. With roots in Boston and a new home in Brooklyn, the practice continues to grow through new projects, exhibitions, and encounters with people from all walks of life. There's always another place to explore, another perspective to consider, and, more often than not, another idea waiting to become something real.
